HOW IT ALL BEGAN

The Property in 1980

In 1977, itinerant evangelist and missionary Neville N. Tan, a graduate of the Singapore Bible College (link to testimony) was introduced to Church of God missionary Rev. Sidney M. Johnson. Rev Johnson was then located in Bangkok after serving many years in India (Cuttack, Orissa). Several visits later Rev. Johnson introduced Neville Tan to the Church of God Movement. At first there was much hesitation on the part of Neville due to the connotations that the name “Church of God” is associated with. However, after researching, questioning, testing and much praying, Neville finally decided to identify his ministry with that of the Church of God Movement (with general offices in Anderson, Indiana). In 1979, Neville and his wife Anne sold off their printing press and invested in a property at the present address (166B, Bedok Road, Singapore 469413). He registered the Asian Missionary Outreach on 18th July. 1979, as the Missionary Board of the Church of God (Evangelical) Singapore.

In June 1980, Neville was invited to attend the Centennial celebrations of the Movement in Anderson, Indiana. There he met several other National Leaders of Church of God congregations from all over the world including Asia.

On Sunday, August 10th 1980, Neville and Anne celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary and the inauguration of the first congregation of the Church of God, Singapore. The first congregation of the Church of God started with six adults and five children. These included Neville, his wife, Anne, and their three young children, Theodora, John & Paul Tan, his younger brother, Henry Tan, and his wife, Doreen, and their two children, Priscilla and Joel, and another two young people. Neville became the founding and first pastor the small congregation

OUR FIRST PROPER WORSHIP FACILITY

In1986, with the help of local Christians, individuals and the then Missionary Board of the Church of God (today Global Outreach) in USA, the congregation of about thirty worshippers raised more than $500,000, half a million SG$ to build their first sanctuary. God showed Himself faithful and great to us by providing for us through the many and various (and some truly miraculous).

The property which was a residential property was also granted a change of use to "Place of Worship." Again and again God proved sovereign and faithful. Since the completion of our new facility, our congregation has also grown and God continues to bring many souls into His Kingdom.

The New Sanctuary completed in January 2006

On April 2006, twenty years later, they remodeled their old sanctuary and with a congregation of a little over a hundred worshippers gave and raised 1.4 million $ to build this current facility. Many Christians from Singapore and one from the States gave sacrificially to this building project. We praise God unceasingly for their gifts of love. On April 23. 2006, the church celebrated the Grand Opening and Dedication of the newly remodeled church sanctuary.

The Singapore congregation also has outreach work in four other countries in Asia. These include Indonesia, Malaysia (Penang, Johor Baru), Cambodia (Phnom Penh) and Vietnam (Ho Chih Minh City).  The Church of God in the United States is also in partnership with us in our outreach work to Indonesia, Vietnam and Cambodia.
